For Professional Advisors
Most of the clients we work with already have an accountant and a lawyer. Our work is designed to sit alongside theirs.
How we work with you
We coordinate planning decisions with a client’s existing advisors. Where our work identifies tax or legal implementation, it is directed back to the client’s accountant or lawyer, with the client’s consent. We do not prepare tax returns or legal documents.
Planning issues we often address
Surplus accumulating inside the corporation, and how and when it is drawn out. The mix of salary and dividends. Passive investment income held in the corporation. Corporate-owned insurance, including funding for shareholder agreements. Succession and the sale of the business. Estate planning where the corporation is a significant asset.
When you refer a client
We acknowledge every referral within one business day and offer a first meeting within ten business days. With the client’s written consent, we confirm to you when the referral is received, when the first meeting takes place, and whether the client proceeds.
Refer a client online →Confidentiality
Information about a shared client is exchanged only with that client’s written consent, and only to the extent the work requires.
Volta Professional Network
Accountants, lawyers and other practitioners who work with us on shared clients. Members receive a quarterly technical briefing on the planning issues their owner-manager clients face, and may co-host client seminars with us. Referrals move in both directions.
Joining the network
Membership is open to accountants, lawyers and other practitioners in good standing with their regulator or professional body. To discuss joining, contact info@voltawealth.ca.
Compensation
No referral fees or other compensation are paid or received in either direction. Referrals are made solely on the basis of client need, and clients are free to choose any advisor.
